High Performance Sound & Flow - Affordable!
When modifying Volkswagens, deleting the factory
resonator has always been considered a "cheap" modification yielding
equally "cheap" results. The Mk5 exhaust is different. The first day we
lifted our Mk5 we noticed VW's muffler choice. Instead of the typical
through-flowing resonator followed by a chambered muffler, the MK5 is
equipped with a full-size chambered muffler followed by a thin
chambered muffler in the rear. It was clear the first muffler did all
the work, restricting exhaust flow and trapping all the sound. We had
to try it, so we built some ugly prototypes and started testing. Here's
what we found:
Our test car for this project is equipped with our
street series 3" downpipe, un-resonated. We started with the resonator
delete pipe. Instantly this daily driver sounded like a race car. A
noticeable increase in power was felt throughout the power band. The
sound was a bit raw with the 3" downpipe, but free of drone and
certainly not too loud. We chopped open the factory muffler to confirm
the chambered design then added our own performance resonator to
another prototype and began testing. The sound cleaned up and quieted
down. Surprised and pleased with our results, R&D was completed and
production began.
This modification is a true winner. We tested the
pipes on both our Mk5s with almost every downpipe/catalytic
converter/resonator combination and found a range of sounds to suit
every enthusiast. We've documented these sounds in a library of video
sound clips. From the start, this modification was designed to be
simple without sacrificing quality. Simplicity brings affordability.
Our FSI/TSI resonator delete pipe and performance
resonator is constructed from CNC mandrel bent 2.5" tubing. Bends are
tight, clearing heat shields and suspension without the worry of
rubbing or vibration. Press-formed hangers utilize factory hangers -
straight and precise. Everything is precision TIG welded. A stainless
steel 2.55" sleeve clamp is included to connect the pipe to the factory
muffler piping. A reduction is built-in to connect to the factory
downpipe piping. Installation requires a simple cut of the factory
piping, detailed in our installation instructions and pictured below.
Our FSI/TSI resonator pipes are available in two
configurations - resonator delete and performance resonator.
Construction Highlights:
- CNC mandrel bent 14 gauge aluminized steel tubing
- Press-formed hangers
- Professional TIG welded construction throughout
- Stainless steel 2.55" sleeve clamp included
- Performance resonator 100% straight-through
Fitment Details:
- Fits 2006+ VW Mk5 Golf, Jetta, GTI 2.0T
- Fits both FSI and TSI including CBFA
- NO WELDING REQUIRED!
- Included sleeve clamp allows fitment to stock exhaust
- Will fit any downpipe that reduces to stock diameter
- Will NOT fit 2.5 motors!
Which pipe is right for me?
This is entirely up to you. There is no difference in performance between the two pipes, only sound.
Do I need to cut my stock exhaust? Is this permanent?
Yes.
A single cut is made in the stock exhaust between the factory resonator
and the factory muffler. This cut is simple to measure and can be cut
on or off the car. We recommend cutting the pipe off the car. Click the
thumbnail below to see where to cut the factory pipe.
This
modification is not permanent. One cut is made to the factory exhaust.
If you ever need to return the car to stock, simply use the sleeve
clamp to re-connect your factory exhaust.
Is there any welding involved?
NO. We include a sleeve clamp which allows you to connect our pipe to the factory pipe without welding or leaks.
