These hubcentric wheel spacers are machined to fit a broad range of Audis and Mercedes. They feature a 5x112 bolt pattern and 66.56mm centerbore in three thicknesses. Hubcentric fitment is built-in, eliminating the possibility of wheel wobble. Weight reduction pockets are machined into each spacer to remove unecessary weight. Typical Audi fitments include B8 A4, A5, Q5 and all 2012+ A6/A7/A8 models. Mercedes fitments cover nearly every model from the 80's 190 to the new CLA.

Construction:

Every 42 Draft Designs wheel spacer starts as a slug of 6061 aluminum cut from an enormous bar. CNC machines takeover, machining the rough slug into a precision spacer sized to accurately extend the hub. Unique machining techniques allow us to maintain absolute concentricity. Lug bolt holes are drilled and machined to size, eliminating installation issues. All sides of our wheel spacers are machined to tolerance and every edge is chamfered. After machining, a dedicated testing station is the last stop for each spacer before heading to inventory.

 

Precision Machining:

Precision Machining Some people think that wheel spacers are nothing more than "giant washers" that fit in-between the wheel and the hub. When you're on the track coming out of turns at 100+ mph that description becomes rather comical. Safety is our #1 concern and we achive it by precisely machining and testing every wheel spacer that leaves our shop.

 

Hubcentric Fitment:

Hubcentric fitment is a standard feature of our wheel spacers. Hubcentric wheel spacers are machined to fit tight around the factory hub. This fitment keeps the spacer spinning concentric to the center of the axle, eliminating the chance of vibrations caused by the spacer.

Before making a purchase, please read this technical guide top-to-bottom to ensure your wheel spacer choice is right for your vehicle. Will your wheel spacers fit my car?

42 Draft Designs currently machines wheel spacers to fit popular VW/Audi models being driven on the road today. Some models may be excluded, and some have specific fitment requirements. Follow our 4-step guide to learn what fits and what doesn’t.

 

Bolt Pattern:

The most important fitment constraint is bolt pattern. We currently machine spacers to fit 4x100, 5x100, and 5x112 VW and Audi models. As a general rule, all Mk1, Mk2, and 4-cylinder B3/B4/Mk3 VWs use the 4x100 bolt pattern – Scirocco and G60 Corrado included. Six cylinder B3/B4/Mk3 and all Mk4 VW models use the 5x100 bolt pattern. B5/B6/Mk5 and Mk6 VW models use 5x112. Mk1 Audi TT models use 5x100, while nearly every late model Audi uses the 5x112 bolt pattern. Exceptions exist! Be sure to research your vehicle bolt pattern if not listed.

 

Spacer Thickness:

Next, let’s talk about spacer thickness. Stance is not a competition, and there are limits. Suspension height, wheel offset, and tire size are going to determine how thick you can go. Before buying wheel spacers, install and adjust the suspension, wheels and tires you intend to use with your spacers. Park your car on level ground, straighten the wheels, and use a metric rule to measure the distance between the outside of your tire and the inside of the fender. Unless you plan to modify your fenders, this distance defines the thickness of spacer you can fit. Reduce thickness by a few MMs to allow proper clearance.

 

Wheelcentric & Hubcentric Fitment Constraints "VERY IMPORTANT"

Before choosing your wheel spacers, you must understand the fitment constraints that exist when using spacers under 15mm in thickness! Read the following very carefully before ordering.

42 Draft Designs hubcentric only spacers have no fitment constraints. Wheel & Hubcentric spacers should be used whenever possible, but cannot be used in many scenarios.

Wheel & Hubcentric spacers (WHC) have been machined for maximum hub and wheel clearance, but some fitment constraints exist. In many cases it's physically impossible to fit a wheel and hubcentric spacer. Let's review this by thickness.

  • 5mm WHC spacers are machined with unlimited internal hub clearance. An oversized, angled wheelcentric protrusion has been added to match the deep chamfer of OEM wheels. If you're using aftermarket wheels bored to 57.1 these spacers will not fit. If you're using aftermarket wheels with 57.1 hubcentric rings these spacers should fit. Front and rear wheel fitment is possible. Please verify the chamfer depth of your wheels before ordering.
  • 8mm WHC spacers are machined with 13mm internal hub clearance. 8mm WHC spacers have been tested to fit all 4x100, 5x100, and 5x112 FRONT hubs without interference. 8mm WHC spacers will NOT fit Mk3 or Mk5/Mk6 REAR hubs. If your hub protrudes more than 13mm from the mating surface of the brake rotor these spacers will NOT fit. Additionally, these spacers have an oversized, angled wheelcentric protrusion added to match the deep chamfer of OEM wheels. If you're using aftermarket wheels bored to 57.1 these spacers will not fit. If you're using aftermarket wheels with 57.1 hubcentric rings these spacers should fit. Please verify the chamfer depth of your wheels before ordering.
  • 10mm WHC spacers are machined with 13mm internal hub clearance. 10mm WHC spacers have been tested to fit all 4x100, 5x100, and 5x112 FRONT hubs without interference. 10mm WHC spacers will NOT fit Mk3 or Mk5/Mk6 REAR hubs. If your hub protrudes more than 13mm from the mating surface of the brake rotor these spacers will NOT fit.   • 13mm WHC spacers are machined with 15mm internal hub clearance. 13mm WHC spacers have been tested to fit all 4x100, 5x100, and 5x112 FRONT hubs without interference. 13mm and smaller WHC spacers will NOT fit Mk3 or Mk5/Mk6 REAR hubs. If your hub protrudes more than 15mm from the mating surface of the brake rotor these spacers will NOT fit. OEM & aftermarket wheels fit without issue.
  • 15mm WHC spacers are machined with 17mm internal hub clearance. 15mm WHC spacers have been tested to fit all VW/Audi FRONT & REAR hubs without interference. Our 15mm WHC spacers have been specifically designed to fit the Mk3, Mk5, and Mk6 oversized rear hubs without interference. OEM & aftermarket wheels fit without issue.
  • 18mm-25mm WHC spacers fit all VW/Audi front & rear hubs without interference. OEM & aftermarket wheels fit without issue.

 

Center Bore:

If your vehicle has been discussed in the steps above, you’re most likely in the clear. Nearly all watercooled VWs and Audis come equipped with a 57.1mm hub center bore. However, things are beginning to change. Some of the newest VW and Audi models on the road have a 66.56mm center bore. These spacers have been machined to fit 57.1mm center bores. Do I Have To Use Extended Lug Bolts?

YES! Even if you’re using 5mm spacers. Factory lug bolts are sized to allow full threads to engage across the entire width of the vehicle hub. Reducing the amount of threads engaged in the hub not only reduces the effective torque of the lug bolt, it’s just plain dangerous. Extended lug bolts are cheap, don’t risk it.

 

Extended Lug Bolts:

What Size Extended Lug Bolts Do I Need?

As a general rule, extended lug fitment follows an easy formula:

4x100 / M12x1.5 Fitment
25mm OEM Lug Length + Spacer Thickness = Extended Lug Length

5x100&112 / M14x1.5 Fitment
27mm OEM Lug Length + Spacer Thickness = Extended Lug Length

Round UP to the closest available lug bolt.

Beware of wheels that break this rule! Some aftermarket wheels and other OEM wheels have a thicker backpad and require lug bolts that are 5-10mm longer to fit the OEM hub. If you had to change your lugs to install the wheels currently on your car, your new lugs may be longer. Before ordering, please measure your lugs to be sure.

Remove one lug bolt and grab your metric ruler. Measure the length of the threaded body from the bottom of the seat to the end of the bolt. Substitute this length for the OEM length in the equation above to find the extended lug length specific to your wheels.

 

Extended Lug Bolt Torque Specs:

Torque extended lug bolts to 90 lb/ft in a star pattern using an accurate torque wrench. NEVER use an electric or air powered impact gun to tighten lug bolts. NEVER apply grease, lubricant, or anti-size to the threads of a lug bolt or hub. Doing so will drastically alter torque readings.

 

Ball Seat vs. Cone Seat:

Ball seat lug bolts are commonly used with OEM wheels. The mating surface of the lug has been machined to a round shape that specifically fits OEM wheels. Some aftermarket wheels use ball seat lug bolts.

Also known as taper seat, cone seat lug bolts are commonly used with aftermarket wheels. The mating surface of the lug bolt has been machined to a 60° angle that universally fits nearly all aftermarket wheels.

Before ordering, compare the diagram above to the lug bolts that currently fit your wheels. When closely examined, it should be rather obvious what type of lug bolt fits your wheel. Don’t guess! Mixing and matching lug type is not safe and will destroy your wheels.

 

What Does Hubcentric Mean?

Hubcentric wheel spacers are machined to fit tight around the factory hub. This fitment keeps the spacer spinning concentric to the center of the axle, eliminating the chance of vibrations caused by the spacer.

 

What Does Wheel & Hubcentric Mean?

Wheel & Hubcentric spacers are machined to fit tight around the factory hub while simultaneously extending the hub. This extension allows your wheel to fit tight around the hub like OEM, keeping everything that spins in perfect balance.

 

What’s the difference?

Both types of wheel spacer are designed to eliminate the chance of wheel vibrations. All 42 Draft Designs spacers are hubcentric by default. Universal slotted spacers typically have an oversized center bore. When installed, these spacers are naturally off-center and cause vibrations. Hubcentric spacers are machined to tightly fit the OEM hub, eliminating any chance of vibrations caused by the spacer spinning off-center.

When installing wheels with hubcentric only spacers, care must be taken to center the wheel and evenly tighten the lug bolts. As the thickness of the hubcentric spacer increases, the length of the hub decreases. The hub is critical to a properly centered wheel, so care must be taken to avoid wheel vibrations when installing thick hubcentric spacers.

Wheel and Hubcentric spacers fix the centering flaws of thicker hubcentric spacers by extending the OEM hub. This extension is concentric with the center of the axle. When installed, the wheel can be mounted without the chance of vibrations caused by the spacer or the wheel. This extension can only be machined into spacers that meet or exceed in thickness the length of the OEM hub.

 

Last But Not Least:

Once removed from the packing, wheel spacers CANNOT be returned. No exceptions. We’ve provided as much technical information as possible to help you choose the right spacer for your vehicle, but there’s no way we can guarantee this advice. Let’s be realistic. Everyone’s setup differs greatly. Ride height, wheel offset, tire size, existing body work… there’s no way that we could know 100% that a 8mm spacer will fit but a 10mm spacer will cause the tires to rub. Once a spacer has been installed it’s covered in scratches and rust marks. If we allowed spacers to be returned, your next order may contain a set of once-used spacers. No good. The same applies to extended lug bolts – NO returns if threaded into a hub. If in doubt, contact us. We can help you decide what will fit. If we can’t help, we have a few experts on board ready to help. In the end, it’s up to you to take final measurements and decide.
